NSSRA Delegation Attends NSAA Annual Convention

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL and LAKEWOOD, CO – Representatives of the National Ski & Snowboard Retailers Association (NSSRA) attended the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) annual Convention & Trade Show, April 30-May 3, in Savannah, GA.

NSSRA Chairman of the Board Brad Nelson, Hi Tempo Ski, Board & Sail, White Bear Lake, MN, and Director Tom Gately, President of the Snowsports Merchanding Corp. (SMC), attended the event to become better informed about ski area efforts to increase the number of snowsports participants and to explore ways for the NSSRA membership can support or build an initiative to grow participation.

“As NSSRA continues to grow, it is our goal to provide our members with the tools to implement a national grass-roots program to welcome new participants to skiing and boarding,” Nelson said. “We are happy to work with and learn from the experience of NSAA in the ‘grow the sport’ arena. We think that the specialty retail community has unique advantages that can be leveraged to allow retail shops to become the gateway to the snowsports world. Our plan is to develop a retailer oriented “grow the sport” campaign that will work in concert with the current efforts of NSAA and the Snowsports Industries America (SIA).”.

“We are looking forward to developing a shared understanding of the future of snowsports,” NSAA President Michael Berry said. “With NSSRA, SIA and NSAA all working together, it greatly increases our ability to bring new participants to skiing and snowboarding.”

“It is another positive step to have the major segments of the snow sports industry together again to discuss roles and how each of us can pool and utilize our different talents and assets in growing snow sports,” said SIA President David Ingemie. “Working together will magnify our strength and make our chance for success much better.”
