NSSRA Board of Directors Elects Officers, New Directors

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL – At its annual meeting in Denver, the National Ski & Snowboard Retailers Association (NSSRA) Board of Directors elected the following officers, whose terms began February 1:
  • Chairman – Wilbur Rice, Equipe Sport, Rawsonville, VT
  • Vice Chair/Chair-Elect – Lori Underwood, Peter Glenn of Vermont, Fort Lauderdale, FL
  • Treasurer – Greg Dekdebrun, Dekdebrun’s Ski & Snowboard, Ellicottville, NY
  • Past Chairman – Brad Nelson, Hi Tempo Ski Snowboard & Sail, White Bear Lake, MN

Rice succeeds Nelson, who has served on the Board as Chairman and in other capacities for more than a decade. Nelson will remain on the Board as Past Chairman, replacing Paul Prutzman, formerly of Pinnacle Sports, Inc., Reading, PA, whose term has expired.

At the NSSRA Annual Membership Meeting at the SIA Snow Show in Denver, Chairman Rice recognized Nelson for his service to the Association and presented him with a memento in appreciation for his contributions to the snowsports industry.

“Brad has been a tireless advocate for ski and snowboard shops for more than a decade, and we appreciate his efforts,” Rice said. “He has helped lay the groundwork for the Association to grow and become a more meaningful part of the industry, and we thank him for that.”

The NSSRA Board also filled two vacancies by electing the following specialty snowsports retailers:

Teddy Schiavoni, Summit Ski & Snowboard, Framingham, MA
Gordon Geiger, Geiger’s Ski & Sport Haus, Chagrin Falls, OH

Retaining their seats on the Board of Directors are: Tom Fuerst, Pedigree Ski Shop, White Plains, NY; Tom Gately, Snowsports Merchandising Corp., Springfield, MA; Tracy Gibbons, Sturtevant’s, Bellevue, WA; Larry Merkel, Round House Sports Center, Inc., Bozeman, MT; Alan Newman, Alpine BoardSports, Scottsdale, AZ; Steve Rogers, Sports Specialists Ltd., Golden, CO; and Dale Schaefer, Aurora Action Sports, East Aurora, NY.

In addition to Rice’s remarks at the Membership Meeting, Snowsports Industries America (SIA) President David Ingemie and National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) President Michael Berry also praised Nelson for his efforts to bring retailers, manufacturers and ski areas together to grow the industry.
